Speaking of "reaching a broader customer base in a speedy and timely manner", Sharp has already announced US pricing and availability for two of the LCDs already
shown this morning in Japan. The 52-inch LC-52D62U and 46-inch LC-46D62U 1080p Aquos LCDs will be available in October with MSRPs of $4,799 and $3,499 respectively. Couple that with their new next-generation ASV panel that provides a 2000:1 static contrast ratio (10,000:1 dynamic), 450 cd/m2 brightness, 4ms response time, two 1080p HDMI inputs, two component inputs, built -in QAM/ATSC tuners and Sharp's 4-wavelength backlighting system and you have a good product at a great price compared to
Samsung and
Sony LCDs of the same size. No word yet on the 42-inch HDTV shown earlier in Japan, but they may wait to announce it here since it is not due until November.

If the 42inch had HDMI 1.3 i'd be picking it up on its release date. 4ms response times sounds great though.

Did they really cut the Sony/Samsung response time in half? Or does the 4ms just represent black to white?
My "Joe Schmo" math tells me 4ms should eliminate blur. You figure multiply the 4ms by 4 to get the gray-to-gray number (call it 16ms) and even with 60 frames per second you're a bit under 1000ms. Heck, this tv might actually be watchable. That would be a first for an lcd tv.

Nice. But what happened to the stand? that design is just awful. It looks like thouse cheap 42" Akai Plasmas sold at Wal-mart last holiday.

How can you spend 3 or 4 grand now on a hdtv, when you know next year hdmi 1.3 is coming
Ron @ Aug 31st 2006 6:34PM
actually, do these sharp have hdmi 1.3?, i doubt it

Perrey: How can you spend 3 or 4 grand on a hdtv next year, when you'll know SED will be coming the year after? There's always some new technology "just around the corner" and you can perpetually make an argment to wait instead of buying.
Most people who didn't wait for 1080p are perfectly happy with their decision, and will be for some time. I think the case for waiting for HDMI 1.3 is even weaker than that for waiting for 1080p.

I'm eying the 46 inch. If its listed at 3500, you will probably be able to find it on froogle for less than 3 grand. The stand will probably be removable (at least i hope, I thought the line with the built in Piano black finishes were awful) I you cannot remove the speakers, it looks ugly on a wall mount, which is why most people by lcds.
