I've used the Dell 24" LCD strictly as my HD display since it became available in March. The price was right ($900 shipped at the time with sales tax) and it has done a great job. As mentioned, this LCD doesn't have the HDCP circuitry enabled (supposedly, it is in there, just no "active"), so it cannot be fed from an HDMI source (converted to DVI). I've been using the Component inputs with my SA-8300HD cable box with no problems at all. I've never used it as a PC display. It probably too big for me to sit right in front of it.
