The next step in HDTV domination: Women

The next important step in reaching HDTV domination is reaching a new audience. Men have already accepted the fact that these widescreen sets are better to watch sports and movies on but women are slow to acknowledge them. The fact of the matter is that women do not have a reason to desire a HDTV. There is no programming targeting women.
Sure, we have Desperate Housewives, but dare I say that is a family drama? There is a need for more programming whose audience are purely women. The two best shows that would increase the transitions to HD must be Oprah and The View. The both attract a very large women following and the format of the show is perfect for widescreen HD. A viewer would benefit from a widescreen format in the same way that late night shows do; you see more of the stage. The View is perfect for this, as the cameras would not have to cut back in forth in order to follow the conversation. Maybe Opera can even give away an HDTV to all of the audience members to kick it off.
If these shows were to go to high definition, and then promote the benefits, the sales of HDTVs would increase. What do you think? Should there be more HDTV programming that targets the female audience?

Oprah? in HD?
WHOA MAN, you've gone TOO far!

Yes, yes they should.
Why?
Because then your wife will have no problem with you buying that 50" HD Plasma you've had your eye on for a while.

I also agree this would be a good thing for the female audience. It would do nothing but benifit. My girlfriend always says she doesn't care about weather it is in HD or not but I think she secretly appreciates it. I actually think she doesn't say anything about it because I always talk about it.
They have there OC and like they said in the other blog upstream, daytime TV would help!

Yes, I do believe that if there were more programming for women that it would dramatically benefit the sales of HD televisions. Generally major purchases for the household are jointly made.

Actually, they already have some daytime soaps in HD, and I believe Ellen Degeneres is in HD, but, YES, I believe just about all studio shows should be in HD. Targetting women is a good idea, actually, as the women typically have to agree to the idea...but is a talk show a real boost in HD? The people are talking...I think different shows would be more intriguing....more travel shows and entertainment, like concerts, etc. Shows that need a visual punch, more than a talk show.
